Yesterday, the Chinese tech giant Huawei unveiled its new HarmonyOS software, an operating system for upcoming electronic devices. This release occurs when Huawei is still on the black List of America.
Event: HarmonyOS Operating system
Prior to Huawei’s announcement, President Trump said America would cut ties with the Chinese tech giant. This action took place shortly after China ceased to buy American agricultural products, a response to the last tariff round of the Trump administration imposed on China’s imports.
Bloomberg on Thursday sent White House news to delay decision-making for U.S. businesses wanting to cooperate with Huawei after blacklist in May. Blacklisted means Huawei will lose access to Android , the operating system provides energy for most smartphones in the world.
According to The Wall Street Journal, although Huawei has said that they want to continue using Android, they can use their “home made” operating system to replace the Google software. Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group, said that they can transfer smartphones from Android to HarmonyOS for a day or two if in a mandatory situation.
Huawei is launching its new software when it is about to release a highly-anticipated smartphone, Mate X, which is said to be launched in Sep.
Here’s all we know about HarmonyOS.
HarmonyOS not only for smartphones
Huawei said in his announcement that HarmonyOS is designed to work on a variety of devices, not just traditional smartphones and tablets.
“We need an operating system that supports all scenarios, which can be used on a wide range of devices and platforms and can satisfy the needs of consumers with low latency and strong security ” , Yu said in the press release.
The first device that has been HarmonyOS will be the smart screen
HarmonyOS will be available on smart screen devices launched at the end of this year. The company said Huawei’s Honor screen will be the first product to run the software.
The smart screen is basically the tablets that are positioned in the house. They are similar to the Amazon Echo or Google Home Smart speakers, but have screens.
This is not the first time we heard Huawei has more smart home products in operation. The company was reported to work with Google about the new smart speaker including the virtual assistant of the search giant.
For the next three years, HarmonyOS will also begin appearing in other devices, such as wearables and cars.
Developers will be able to create an app once and deploy them across a variety of devices
HarmonyOS will be able to adapt to different layouts and screen interactions. This means that developers can encrypt their app only once and they will work on a variety of different devices.
The software will provide fast performance
The operating system will have what is called the latency Determination tool, just as its name will help the software recognize which task needs priority in order to achieve fast performance. The company claims that it will reduce 25.7% of latency in the application.
HarmonyOS will launch in China but will be present globally
Huawei said they will “set the foundation for HarmonyOS ” in the Chinese market, suggesting that it will launch in China first. It will then expand globally as an open source platform available worldwide.
